Equally harmful is that prejudice inevitably leads to discrimination, which I see as the practical extension of bias. When the race, gender, faith, orientation, or physical being of an individual triggers prejudice, it usually follows that the victim of it is denied any number of opportunities, and even rights, by those perceiving them as inferior.
Prejudice and Discrimination have Existed. Throughout human history, prejudice and discrimination have existed. Prejudice refers to the irrational and inflexible attitudes that members of a particular group hold about members of another group (Sibley and Duckitt 248). Prejudices are either harmful or positive.
In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. Islam is against all forms of racism and bigotry, on the basis of both revelation and reason. Racism is defined as the belief that one ethnicity is superior to another, or one color of skin is superior to another, or the people of one country are superior to another.
Islam is the most anti-racist and anti-prejudicial way of life. Islamic history testifies to the openness Muslims have shown towards people of different cultures and religions. Within their own ranks, sincere and practicing Muslims have always kept their hearts and minds open to their brethren, no matter what their background.
There are four main explanations of prejudice and discrimination: 1. Authoritarian Personality. 2. Realistic Conflict Theory - Robbers Cave. 3. Stereotyping. 4. Social identity Theory.
